2017
2017 was a relatively quiet year spent giving talks both in Ireland in England. In the autumn I was delighted to be offered a residency at the Heinrich Boll writers retreat cottage on Achill Island. Check out the harp festival there at Heinrichboll.com
Highlight of 2017 was a return visit to Antigua where I did some more research in to the sugar plantation at Betty's Hope. This plantation was owned by the Codrington family. Earlier in the year, I visited the marvellous Codrington Library at All Souls College, Oxford. The library was funded by William Codrington's income from slavery.
If you follow the hurricanes in the eastern Caribbean, you may know that Antigua narrowly missed being damaged by two major hurricanes this year. Barbuda, its sister island, was not so lucky: the capital, Codrington, was devastated.
